1970년대부터 설치, 비디오, 퍼포먼스, 사진 등 다양한 매체를 이용하여 개념적인 작업을 해오고 있는 김순기는 시간과 공간에 개입된 이미지 그리고 이미지 해체에 관심을 가지면서 조형적 상황을 일상적인 삶에 연결시키는 실험적인 작업들을 해오고 있다. 플랫폼 서울 2008에서는 1975년 ‘김순기미술제’(미국문화원)에서 보여졌던 설치작품이 재설치되고, 1970년대 제작되었던 영상작품이 당시의 작업 드로잉과 함께 전시된다. 아트선재센터 지하의 아트홀에서는 1975년 ‘스페이스 75’ 예술제에서 공연되었던 ‹시간과 공간›이 새롭게 각색되어 재공연된다. 7명의 참가자가 시공간의 단위로 11분 15초 동안, 7개의 다른 성질의 물질을 가지고 시간 및 공간의 축대를 이루어나간다. 무대 위에서 퍼포머들의 일상적인 제스처가 우연적인 만남을 통해 마치 키네틱 아트와도 같은 움직임의 아름다움으로 펼쳐지며, 빛과 소리와 함께 조화를 이루게 된다.

Lives and works in Paris
Kim Soun Gui has been making conceptual artworks using various mediums, such as installation, video, performance, and photography, since the 1970s. She is mainly interested in creating images that engage time and space as well as deconstructing images. Her experimental works, in effect, connect formative phenomenon with ordinary life. Platform Seoul 2008 displays an installation of her early works which were originally presented in her solo exhibition “Kim Soun Gui Art Festival” in 1975 at the American Cultural Center in Seoul, in addition to video works from the 1970s which are exhibited along with concept drawings. In the art hall of the Artsonje Center, she performs Temps et Espace which was first shown at the “Space 75” contemporary art festival in 1975. Seven participants progress in a unit of time and space during 11 minutes and 15 seconds. As they progress, they build an embankment of time and space within which seven different elements, such as sound, light, and movement, interact. Temps et Espace shows these elements at play together through ordinary chance gestures, sound, and light, making Temps et Espace comparable to kinetic art.
